Sacramento , California ... April 26, 2009... New Generation Software, Inc. (NGS), an established developer of business solutions designed for the “i for business” operating system on IBM Power Systems, has announced it plans to begin shipping Release 7.0 of its NGS-IQ™ suite of business intelligence solutions in the next 60 days. This major release features a new Web interface for running and viewing Web reports that can include hyperlinks that support on demand drill down. Reports intended for Web presentation may be developed using a new Web report design feature that dynamically builds custom HTML output without requiring prior Web development experience. The new release also offers other important usability and functional enhancements in the SmartView™ OLAP module, the Windows query development module, and host development environments.
The new Web reporting interface is offered as a standard design feature of the IQ Server™ module of NGS-IQ. Authorized users simply pick the query they want to run from a Web page and then view the resulting output. Drill down is supported by enabling the query developer to associate hyperlinks with the summary values in the report. When a user views the report and clicks on a summary value, the software initiates another query and returns data to the Web browser based on that selection. This new feature gives developers the flexibility to embed NGS-IQ reports in their Web applications and pass input parameters to the NGS-IQ query application to drive on demand reporting in real-time over the Web. No PHP, HTML, Java, or SQL skills are required. NGS-IQ also supports Web presentation and drill down over static HTML reports archived on the Integrated File System (IFS).
NGS-IQ ’s Windows query development module, IQ Client™ , features a new HTML editor so users can create custom presentations of Web reports just like a Web Master. The product’s extensive Web design capabilities make it easy to: incorporate logos, graphical images, style sheets, and other elements into a report; tailor the report layout; add hyperlinks to dashboards, Web pages, or other applications; and more. Developers can let IQ Client generate the underlying HTML code or edit the HTML directly, if desired.
Additional enhancements in IQ Client further streamline query and report development, including: a “Join Wizard” that suggests how to join two files based on past work, a simplified method for changing file join relationships; and greater developer control when downloading DB2 for i file structures to the local workspace. Also, IQ Client can now generate a file structure based on the design of a query definition, put it in a desktop equivalent of the “QTEMP” library, and make it available for use in other IQ Client queries, without actually running the query or creating the file on the IBM i. This enables a query developer to work offline, even when creating a query that requires temporary work files. Users can also tell IQ Client to immediately open a query definition after downloading it to the local workspace, as well as upload or download more than one query object at a time. A new history log in IQ Client maintains a record of every query uploaded to IQ Server.
NGS-IQ’s SmartView OLAP module features enhanced calculation capabilities so users can create new fields like margins, percentages, and other values from fields included in their multidimensional model.
With over 20,000 “i” users throughout the world, NGS has been an industry leader since 1982 in developing and marketing field-proven business intelligence solutions and financial management software for companies representing virtually every industry and organizational size. NGS is an Advanced Member of IBM PartnerWorld for Developers and a member of the System i Initiative for Innovation.
